Farmerville, Louisiana is having a "traffic problem," the type of “problem” that every small town in America would LOVE to have. In-state and out-of-state people are interested in our progressive community because there are countless business opportunities that they want to pursue in and around Farmerville. Many are already moving here while others are looking for and buying property around our beautiful Lake D'Arbonne as their "get-away.”

We are recognized as a "Certified Retirement Community" by the State of Louisiana. Our Chamber of Commerce has worked very hard to obtain this recognition. I mentioned "progressive" above; however, I want you to know that we are also AGGRESSIVE. We wish you would please come to Farmerville and see everything that is being done.

In the realm of improvements, we have been very fortunate in implementing programs and securing several grants:

  • Our Water Department has initiated a USDA grant/loan that will enable us to better treat everyone on our system to crystal clear water, while certain grants are assisting in the water purification process at Foster Farms Poultry Plant.

  • We have recently purchased two new Police vehicles and have a third one on the way.
  • We successfully obtained a $250,000 grant from Delta Regional Authority (DRA) to assist with our sewer project on Hwy 33 South.

  • We are obtaining all new equipment for our Street Department with a USDA grant/loan (our department employees do a great job with the equipment they have now so I can only imagine how much more beautiful Farmerville will be when they get the new equipment!).

  • Looking ahead through 2011....in the spring we hope to find funds to help us overlay some of our more traveled streets.

  • Our Sanitation Department is awaiting the arrival of a new Sanitation Truck (already named “Mr. Wonderful”). Meanwhile, our employees pride themselves in helping keep Farmerville clean.

  • We have a “junk vehicle” ordinance that we are now enforcing, and so far, more than 40 vehicles have been removed.

  • We are in the process of enforcing an “abandoned building” ordinance that will further enhance our environment.

One of our most anticipated projects is to extend sewer and water service across Lake D'Arbonne to our existing businesses and residents on Hwy. 33 South. Efforts are underway to extend our Town Limits in order to serve this area. There is also great interest in a new motel coming to this area.

Farmerville has a Volunteer Fire Department that is second to none, including the volunteers and their equipment. We have several satellite stations, and have thereby reduced Fire Insurance premiums for many in Union Parish.
Foster Farms Poultry Plant is in “full-swing” at this time. This is truly a “God-send” for all of North Louisiana. They are good neighbors, and they have enlarged their plant, adding many new jobs.

Last but not least, finding a place to eat in Farmerville is NO problem. We enjoy many quality eating establishments and service with a smile. I understand that Burger King is finalizing their plans to locate here, and that an up-scale restaurant is considering a location on Hwy. 33 South, along the shores of Lake D'Arbonne.

All in all we have it "pretty good" here in tall pine country. Lake D'Arbonne is absolutely beautiful and is a wonderful lake for fishing and water sports. Farmerville and Union Parish are also great places to hunt, with some residents able to step out their back doors to harvest a deer (in season of course). We invite you to contact us, plan to visit Farmerville, and see all of Union Parish.
