Farmerville is the parish seat of Union Parish, located in the North-Central part of Louisiana. Population of the town is 4,151 (2008 estimate): population of the parish is 22,692 (2008 estimate). Farmerville’s economy is largely based on Foster Farms poultry processing plant, which is located just north of town. Other large employers are the hospital and parish school system.
Farmerville’s finest asset is Lake D’Arbonne, a beautiful 15,200-acre lake created by the damming of Bayou D’Arbonne in the late 1950’s. Farmerville lies along the edge of the lake, and is enjoying significant residential development as individuals discover the area for primary and secondary homes. Notable commercial development is taking place along major thoroughfares in Farmerville. In 2008, Union Parish was named a Louisiana Certified Retirement Community, due to collaborative efforts among Farmerville and other towns in the parish, the Union Parish Police Jury, Union Parish Chamber of Commerce, and other groups.
Today, the leaders and residents of Farmerville are ready and eager to make significant strides in the arena of modern economic development, and develop the town to its full potential.
